ABOUT ME

My name is Mireya and I live in San Diego, CA. I created this blog to talk about my experiences in all things culinary: cooking, eating and everything in between! I graduated with two A.S. degrees in Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry from Grossmont College and completed my internship at Banker's Hill Bar and Restaurant under the supervision of Chef Rachel Going. During my time at Banker's Hill, I learned useful techniques and was inspired by the creativity and hard work put into each creation.

My love of food began at a very young age. As a little kid, my palette was far beyond my years. I preferred provolone cheese over Kraft singles, my favorite candy was chocolate covered espresso beans and while most kids were fed chicken McNuggets, my Mom was cooking up Cornish Game Hens with plum sauce. My love of cooking and baking is only surpassed by my love of eating. I am not ashamed to admit that I can eat more than a guy and ordering salads as an entrĂ©e is against my religion (unless it is a delicious Waldorf Salad). My favorite pastime is going out and trying new eateries; I will eat anywhere!

At the moment, I am trying to find my “culinary niche” but I am happy being the go-to person for cakes among my friends and family. While I am mostly asked to make pastries, I love cooking just as much. Regardless, I pride myself in using my own recipes, some of which have taken years to perfect through trial, error and the occasional emotional breakdown. I often find myself going to bed with a pen and notepad by my side, in case an idea comes to me in the middle of the night. Food is my life; I have been known to stay home and spend some quality time with my oven instead of going out. I am constantly conceptualizing recipes and trying to come up with unique and creative ideas and I would love to share some of them with my readers!
